Team Canada Road Post #2 - Canada vs. Glasgow, June 6

Shift Kicker with Cree Assaults and her other teammates
After our practise the previous night, we arrived at the venue early and sat around watching the Glasgow girls get set up. They had their stuff together and we were just in the way when attempting to help. Shucks.
We had to loan a player to the Glasgow team to fill their bout roster. They were short due to injury over the previous weeks. The wonderful Heidi Hasselhoff, from Toronto, went over to the other side, complete with a special shirt they made for her. She was very worried about doing her best, but as a big hitter, her best was to absolutely flatten some of her future team mates. She was a very classy girl for doing her damndest and for keeping a brave face on the whole thing when all she wanted to do was play for the team she came with. She deserves a medal- particularly as she could not understand most of what her new team mates were saying.
The game itself was iffy. One of the Canadian players was ejected for an extremely bad decision. This set the tone for the remainder of the game. The Glasgow girls used this as an opportunity to try out some dirty moves of their own. I received a baseball slide to the backs of my skates as I cleared the pack one jam. Hot Roller got swung around by her jersey. It felt a little ugly, particularly as we were painted as the bad guys.
The after party fixed all the bad vibes what happens on the track stays on the track! Sadly we could only stay for a pint before heading back to the hostel. We had a big day the next day.
Final Score: Canada - 102, Glasgow - 41

Here’s a great bout recap from the Glasgow MySpace page.

Way to go, eh!
